Easy resin crafts for beginners can include making coasters, keychains, and simple jewelry. These use small molds and allow for easy experimentation with colors, glitter, and other additives. Key steps for any project involve preparing your workspace, measuring and mixing the resin and hardener, pouring the mixture into a mold, and allowing it to cure completely.
Items you will need: 1 round silicone mold, epoxy resin (parts A&B), gloves, disposable cups, popsicle sticks , dried flowers, respirator mask, and wax paper. You can purchase epoxy resin from just about any crafting store like Hobby Lobby, Michael's , also Dollar Tree ,Walmart, Amazon, Let's Resin, the list goes on and on.
SAFETY DISCLAIMER: Resin is a toxic material which one should use gloves while handling and a respirator mask to avoid inhaling any fumes. Work in a well ventilated area , and open windows for air circulation. You may purchase epoxy resin that is marketed as non-toxic. CHILL EPOXY products are non-toxic and safe for food contact, as well as ArtResin.
Acquire the supplies first. Step into your nearest Dollar Tree (no need to break the bank for your first project!), and waltz on over to the crafting isle. Dollar Tree actually has all of the items you need for this project! Look for Crafters Square branded items (image below right). Once you gather all of the supplies, find a well ventilated work area, and protect the surface you will work on. I use silicone mats , but if you do not have any you can cover your work surface with wax paper. Put your gloves and mask on! Dollar Tree sells 1oz bottles of both Part A and B resin , so no measuring is needed, just pour 1 bottle of each into a disposable cup and mix slowly (so to minimize bubbles) with a wooden popsicle stick until well blended. Pour enough resin to just slightly layer the bottom of the mold, place the dried flowers , then pour just enough to cover the flowers. Let sit for 24 hrs to cure. After 24 hours , you should be able to release the resin from the mold. The resin should be sturdy , not bendy! Now admire your creation! This project is as easy as it gets! As you gain experience you can experiment with more mediums like glitter, chrome powder, alcohol ink, beads, etc. The options are endless!
Until the next blog.....Happy Crafting!
